HOW TO MEASURE

Accurate measurements are essential before installing a shower enclosure or other bathroom products. Proper measurements help ensure the product fits correctly and reduce installation issues. Whether you plan to install the shower door yourself or hire a professional, following the correct measuring process will make installation much smoother.

Tools Needed

  • Tape Measure
  • Pen and Paper
  • Level
Measuring Shower Opening

Steps to Measure Width

Measure the shower opening at three different points to ensure accuracy.

  • Bottom: Measure from the left wall to the right wall at the bottom.
  • Center: Measure across the center of the opening.
  • Top: Measure the width at the top of the shower opening.

For shower openings with a return panel, always measure at the centerline of the curb for the most accurate fit.

When using a tape measure, remember to account for the body of the tape measure to avoid inaccurate readings.

Checking Shower Wall with Level Tool

Steps to Check Surfaces for Level & Plumb

Use a 4-foot or 6-foot level to check whether the shower walls and surfaces are straight and properly aligned.

  • Check vertical walls for plumb.
  • Check horizontal surfaces for level.
  • Identify uneven areas that may affect installation.

In older homes, shower walls may not be perfectly straight. If the walls are not plumb, additional adjustments or professional installation may be necessary.

Vertical Shower Height Measurement

Steps to Measure Height

Start measuring from the top of the shower base or tub deck and extend the tape measure vertically to the top of the tile or finished wall surface.

  • Keep the tape measure straight and vertical.
  • Record the measurement carefully.
  • Double-check all measurements before ordering your shower door.

Accurate height measurements help ensure the shower enclosure fits properly and operates smoothly after installation.
